With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform you the demise of Kathrine Methikalam (78), wife of Joseph Methikalam and mother of Dr. Blessy, (Blessy’s husband Dr. George Chacko), Dr. Bindu, and grand mother of James, Joseph and Jessica. She passed away yesterday (3/14/2017) afternoon. Dr. Blessy and Dr. Bindu are our CCD teachers.
We express our deep-felt condolence to Jose Chettan, Blessy, George, Bindu and all other family members. Let us pray for the departed soul, and for all the bereaved family members!

Our second phase in the distribution of charity, from the funds collected through EFICP 5K Run will take place this month. We are planning to give $ 4,000 each to the below listed two charities in the Philadelphia area:
1. Covenant House: The Covenant house shelters young adults from ages 18 to 21 who are faced every challenge imaginable — physical abuse, sexual abuse, violence, Parents who can’t care for them because of their own addiction or mental health issues. Parents who won’t care for them because they don’t approve of them. It is situated in German town area.
2. Bethesda Project: The Bethesda Project manages a mix of city shelters, church-based shelters, transitional houses, overnight cafes and other forms of housing for the formerly homeless. It is situated in South Street area.
Soup Kitchen: Missionary sister of charity: This Sunday, March 12, 2017, and Friday, March 17, 2017, we are sending two groups, each of consisting of 7 volunteers, to work in a Soup Kitchen in Norristown. The work at the facility will start at 8:30 AM and everything will be over by 12:00 PM. (You will have to start from the northeast at around 7:00 AM.) So far, we have spent approximately $28,000 towards charity, first two phases combined. The Charity were beneficiaries were Sunday Breakfast, Back on my feet, Women of Well (through city of Philadelphia) an individual homeless and a surgery situation, Covenant House and Bethesda Project and Missionary Sisters of Charity.
The ‘World Day of Prayer’ 2017 organized by the Women’s Forum of the Ecumenical Fellowship of Indian Churches in Philadelphia (EFICP) will be held on Saturday, March 4th 2017 at St Thomas Indian Orthodox Church, 1009 Unruh Ave, Philadelphia from 9.00 am (EST) to 1.30 pm (EST). The 2017 World Day of Prayer is based on the theme “Am I Being Unfair to You?” based on the lives of people in the Philippines. The main speaker of the event is Rev. Sr. Jocelyn Edathil SIC, MD, PhD.
The Ecumenical Women’s Forum cordially invites you and your families to join our neighbors in celebrating World Day of Prayer for the women and children of Philippines those in conflict and difficulties. Join women from 170 countries and observe World Day of Prayer to support ecumenical efforts toward justice, peace, healing, and wholeness. Your presence will take the event to a different height and it will be an encouragement and blessing for all of us. Hoping to see you all!

World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women with many traditions who come together each year to observe a common day of prayer. On March 4th, 2017, The Ecumenical Women’s Forum will join our neighbors in celebrating World Day of Prayer in solidarity with the women of the Philippines at St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Church, 1009 Unruh Avenue, Philadelphia, PA from 9am to 1:30pm. The Keynote Speaker for the event is Sr. Jocelyn Edathil SIC, MD, PhD. Sr. Jocelyn is a practicing physician and professor at Temple University Hospital. She is also the first American born religious sister of Indian origin in America. She has been active in the ecumenical community since childhood. Sr Jocelyn is a well-known and highly esteemed devotional speaker nationally and internationally.
The Ecumenical Women’s Forum cordially invites all to join the women of the Philippines in prayer and song to support ecumenical efforts toward justice, peace, healing, and wholeness. The WDP choir plays a big part in the program. Please contact the WDP coordinator for those who are interested in joining the English and Malayalam choir. The first practice for all programs is scheduled on January 22nd at St Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, 608 Welsh Road, Philadelphia at 3 pm. Mrs. Sosamma Korah, 86, Mother of Mr. Jacob Korah (Ecumenical Committee Member ) , entered fully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, just now in Mallappally, Kerala.
